The Federal Moms Matter Act is Reintroduced

The Federal Moms Matter Act is Reintroduced

By the Policy Center for Maternal Mental Health Policy Team

The Moms Matter Act (H.R. 3312/S. 1602), first introduced in 2021, was reintroduced this summer as part of the broader Momnibus bill package.

Our work shaping and reporting on national mental health policy is made possible through a 2020-2024 capacity grant from the Perigee Fund.

Like last year, the bill invests in community-based programs that provide mental and behavioral health treatments and support to moms with maternal mental health conditions or substance use disorder, including:

  • Group prenatal and postpartum care models;

  • Collaborative maternity care models;

  • Initiatives to address stigma and raise awareness about warning signs for maternal mental and behavioral health conditions;

  • Programs at freestanding birth centers; and

  • Suicide prevention programs.

The bill also provides funding to grow and diversify the maternal mental and behavioral health care workforce.

The Moms Matter Act is one of 13 evidence-based bills that make up the Black Maternal Health Momnibus Act.

A one-pager on the Moms Matter Act can be found here.

A full summary of the Momnibus package can be found here.

The Policy Center supports The Shades of Blue Project in leading the advocacy work and will share advocacy opportunities with our network.
