Moms MATTER Act Representative Lisa Blunt Rochester Senator Kirsten Gillibrand BLACK MATERNAL HEALTH CAUCUS

Congress Introduces The Moms Matter Act for Black & Brown Maternal Mental Health

March 01, 2021 by 2020 Mom

By the 2020 Mom Policy Team

In February, the Black Maternal Health Momnibus was reintroduced by members of the Black Maternal Health Caucus.

The bill package built on and refined the prior and first Black Maternal Health Momnibus introduced last year, in the 116th congress, to comprehensively address America’s maternal health crisis and specifically the significant disparities that exist for Black women and other women of color.

The bill package includes H.R.909/S.484 The Moms Matter Act for Black Maternal Mental Health.

The bill calls for financial investments to increase the number of Black and Brown clinicians of color providing maternal mental health services and increases investments in community-based maternal mental health support provided by people of color.

The Shades of Blue Project, a Black-run non-profit organization that has long been leading the charge to support Black and minority maternal mental health, is organizing a sign-on on effort for organizations and calls to action for individuals to easily engage congress.

2020 Mom is supporting these efforts and will share sign-ons and calls to action with you.

Non-profit and Health System Organizations we invite you to sign on to this letter of support, here.

Individuals take two minutes and a few clicks to ask your members of the House and Senate to co-sponsor the Act here.

You can also stay up to date regarding how the full bill package is moving, by following the Black Maternal Health Caucus on Twitter.
